All programme activities take place on the premises and in the facilities of the University of Pretoria (Mamelodi Campus). Through this close partnership, children gain access to a university environment at an early age, which supports their academic ambitions and strengthens their confidence in their own abilities.
Currently, Shaping Future Leaders offers programmes for:
Each group participates in two sessions per week.
Computer Lab
During the computer lab sessions, learners develop competencies in:
- Programming and coding
- Algorithmic and logical thinking
- Artificial Intelligence (AI)
- Digital literacy
- Technology-based problem-solving
Maker Space
The second weekly session takes place in our Maker Space, where learners engage in hands-on, project-based work and gain experience in areas such as:
- Robotics construction and programming
- Engineering and technical challenges
- 3D design and 3D printing
- Electronics and technology projects
- Team-based innovation projects
The combination of theoretical learning, coding, and practical project work enables learners to develop both technical competencies and essential future skills such as creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and perseverance.
By learning in a university environment and working with modern technologies, learners gain experiences that are often not accessible to students from township schools.
Planned expansion
In August 2026, we will welcome an additional group of Grade 6 learners, increasing the number of children who can benefit from our programme. Our long-term vision is to continuously expand the programme by regularly adding new learner groups, while also providing existing participants with the opportunity to continue their development within the programme.
Our goal is to offer interested and motivated children not only short-term support, but also the opportunity to participate in a structured and sustainable enrichment programme over many years.
